The platform vivons-ensemble.net has been designed to share and exchange knowledge, resources and experiences in order to support the achievement of target 7 of objective 4 of sustainable development, particularly in Africa and the Francophonie. This target specifically offers a transformative vision of education by "ensuring that, by 2030, all students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to promote sustainable development, including through education for development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, the promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and the contribution of culture to sustainable development".

In order to promote just, tolerant, inclusive and sustainable societies, fundamental changes must take place at the individual level. Knowledge and skills must be acquired and developed so that people of all ages can become aware and understand the often complex realities they face. This will enable them to become agents of change and to acquire the common values and attitudes needed to face the challenges of today's societies in a responsible, effective and collaborative manner. Empowering learners highlights the need to invest in a quality, inclusive and relevant formal, non-formal and informal education system. In addition, cognitive and socio-affective learning, as well as community and citizenship education, in a lifelong learning perspective, are of crucial importance for the achievement of all other SDGs.
