Regional workshop on national learning assessment systems in sub-Saharan Africa: Knowledge sharing and needs assessment (6-8 december 2017, Dakar)

 

TALENT, the Teaching and Learning Educators' Network for Transformation, in collaboration with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the Global Partenership for Education (GPE), is organizing a regional workshop on national learning assessment systems in sub-Saharian Africa: knowledge sharing and needs assessment, from 6 to 8 December 2017, in Dakar, Senegal.

In research field, several global initiatives are encouraging reflection and collaboration on the use of learning assessment to improve learning. This measurement work is particulary relevant in sub-saharian Africa, where many countries have reformed their curriculim and are now using the Competency-Based Approach; However, most of them face difficulties in adapting tools, approaches and instruments for measuring learners' performance.           

The workshop, which will bring toghether 18 countries from the different sub-regions of sub-Saharian Africa, rpresentatives of the major international, regional and multi-country learning assessment progammes operating in sub-Saharian Africa (PISA-D, PASEC, SACMEQ, ADEA-NALA, PAL-Network, IEA, ect.)as well as development partners active in this field. The objectives of the workshop will be to share programmes and initiatives and to identify capacity-building and knowledge gaps and needs..

Since its creation in june 2016, by the Regional Coordination Group on SDG4-Education 2030 for West and Central Africa (RCG4 WCA), TALENT has focused on teacher training, curricula for extended basic education, the measurement of learning outcomes and more generally on standars and norms for ensuring quality education.

In its activities, TALENT promotes cooperation and exchange of experience with other regions of Africa and other continents. Read more
